HYDERABAD: The Sindh High Court has taken up the case for the release of an imprisoned accused in the murder of Wall Street journalist Daniel Pearl.

On Tuesday, the court issued notices to the respondents in a petition filed by the brother of Syed Muhammad Hashim, who was absolved of the charges by the Anti-Terrorism Court on October 23, 2014. Petitioner Syed Imran Shah’s counsel, advocate Sher Muhammad Laghari, informed the court that Hashim was detained for 90 days under the Maintenance of Public Ordinance.

He added that the period of detention had passed but Hashim was still in jail. The court issued notices to the respondents, interior secretary, home secretary, Sindh jails IG and the superintendent of Hyderabad Central Prison.
