PESHAWAR:

The eighth anniversary of the Dalgaran suicide attack, which claimed the lives of former capital city police officer (CCPO) Malik Saad besides 12 others, was observed at Peshawar Press Club on Monday.

Police officials, members of the Malik Saad Sports Trust, the slain CCPO’s relatives, then Peshawar nazim Asif Baghi, DSP Khan Razziq as well as family members of Army Public School (APS) students attended the programme.

Paying tribute to Saad who was killed on January 27, 2007, speakers stressed that unity and patience were the need of the hour. They asked the government to announce a day to pay homage every year to all those who have fallen victim to terrorist activities in K-P.

Speaking on the occasion, K-P Finance Minister Muzaffar Syed said the menace of terrorism needs to be uprooted. “It will be never-ending if authorities fail [to do so].” He added Saad was a man of honour and it is difficult to fill the vacuum left by him.

Saad’s brother Malik Asad assured parents and relatives of terror victims there will be a new beginning for the country. “The provincial capital has suffered more than any other city in the war against terror,” he added.

A ceremony to pay homage to the Dalgaran victims was also held at Police Lines, Peshawar.
