ISLAMABAD: Information Minister Pervaiz Rashid on Monday accepted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar’s challenge of a live television debate on the issue of formation of a judicial commission to probe alleged rigging in the May 2013 general elections.

Talking to media after attending a conference organised by Pakistan Ulema Council, Rashid welcomed the PTI leader’s offer and said the PTI should nominate its participant or participants, and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will nominate a similar number of participants for the discussion.

“As information minister, I will ensure live coverage of the debate on national media,” he said, signalling readiness to assist the PTI Information Secretary Shireen Mazari in making arrangements for the debate.

He hoped that Asad Umar and the PTI leadership will respond positively to his offer as this is ‘a truly democratic attitude’ to have debates on issues, whether in Parliament or on media channels.

“I suggest that after the debate, it should be left for the people to decide whether the PTI’s stance is right or the government viewpoint on judicial commission is rational,” he said.

To a question about the PTI chief Imran Khan’s statement about more protests, he said he will comment on such statements after the proposed discussion.

Good move by PMLn. Now go ahead put the last nail in PTIs coffin. They made it easy by putting the rest in there themselves.
