Teenager held for assault, murder of minor killed in botched escape attempt

17-year-old was shot dead by police when he tried to make a run for it while being moved for his hearing in Lahore

LAHORE: A 17-year-old boy, the prime suspect in the murder of a five-year-old in Lahore, was shot and killed in a police encounter earlier this morning as he attempted to make a run for it, Express News reported on Monday. 

Earlier this month, autopsy reports confirmed that the victim, who was found on the roof of a mosque in Green Town on January 3, was molested several times before being strangled.

The teenage suspect was arrested and was being taken to his hearing today, when he tried to escape.

The police began firing to control the situation during which the juvenile offender was shot and died.

Seven suspects had been arrested in connection with the murder but the 17-year-old admitted to the offence and pleaded guilty.

Can someone please clarify what happened to the muezzin and other adults who admitted to sexually abusing the boy? Why were they released?
