ISLAMABAD: While expressing dissatisfaction with the hospital administration inquiry report into the theft of a baby, the Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) has formed a new committee to probe the case.

The final Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) report, which was sent to CADD, the Islamabad chief commissioner and the inspector general of the Islamabad Police, had blamed “outsiders” for the theft while absolving hospital staff. The report also said the family must be blamed for trusting and allowing a stranger to handle the baby in the first place. The family, however, contested the hospital’s inquiry report, terming it “replete with factual errors”.

CADD, meanwhile, has also directed senior Pims officials who went on leave while the inquiry into the theft case was under way to resume duty immediately.

CADD Secretary Khalid Hanif said that the new committee --- comprising a deputy secretary (CADD), a senior Pims official and a health ministry official --- would probe the case after the family contested the hospital’s inquiry report.

He said that if the inquiry committee finds that the incident had happened due to the negligence of hospital staff, strict action will be taken against the responsible persons.

Hanif said the inquiry committee will submit its findings next week. He said that efforts will also be made to overcome security-related issues at the hospital to avoid a recurrence of such incidents.

Atiqur Rehman, a maternal uncle of the stolen baby, said that they will continue knocking at the doors of high-ups to build pressure on the hospital administration and the police to find the missing baby.

He said Shazia, the mother of the baby, was still in the hospital and will only leave once she gets her child back. He also appealed to the prime minister to take note of the incident and order a fair inquiry.
