Protecting doctors

Sindh govt, law-enforcement agencies need to bring back peace to Karachi and control threats to doctors

BADIN: At this point in time, the Sindh government seems completely off-balance when it comes to protecting the lives of citizens of Karachi. Banned terrorist organisations as well as militant wings of political and sectarian parties have been involved in the killing of innocent people on the basis of their sect or upon refusing to pay extortion money. Due to safety and security concerns, a good number of doctors from Karachi have applied for ‘Good Standing Certificates’ from the Pakistan Medical Council, which means that they plan on moving their medical activities from Pakistan.

This will be a massive blow to the economic stability of the country, as well as for its people, who have already suffered due to a lack of health facilities in the country. The Sindh government and the law-enforcement agencies need to bring back peace to Karachi and must control these growing security threats to doctors from extortionists and sectarian outfits.
