Twitter on Thursday announced that it had partnered with Bing Translator to introduce tweet translation for its users.
For now, translations are available for 40 language pairs and only available in a browser, on an Apple iOS device, an Android device, or Twitter’s own TweetDeck platform.
The tweet translation setting can be turned on or off only by signing into Twitter on a desktop computer or laptop. To turn the feature on, a user must go to the settings page and check “Show tweet translations”.
Tweets in languages different from your own will have a little globe icon, which is also an indication that a translation is available between your language and the language of the tweet.
A word of caution: translations may sometimes be of low quality, a help page in Twitter’s support section says.
“Although Bing Translator relies on advanced translation software to provide Tweet translations, the results still vary and often fall below the accuracy and fluency of translations provided by a professional translator.”
Tweet recap
Twitter also introduced a recap feature on January 21 for users who use the Twitter app on iOS devices. The feature will be introduced for the Android app and for regular computer browsers soon.
"Our goal is to help you keep up – or catch up – with your world, no matter how much time you spend on Twitter," the announcement read.
