ISLAMABAD: The Prime Minister’s Secretariat has issued orders of change of nomenclature of 258 lady teachers of model colleges in the capital who were toiling for the last two years.

The new nomenclature has been changed from Secondary School Teacher (SST) to Senior Teacher. Due to the previous nomenclature (SST), the lady teachers were running from pillar to post for change of nomenclature.

The reason for change was that the teachers were in the same grade with no further promotions and without a house rental ceiling of the next grade and no change in their salary. Central Academic Staff Association of Model colleges Vice President Gulnaz Rahi told The Express Tribune that it was their constant efforts which made the change possible.

“We have been going with the teachers in summer heat, during fasts in Ramazan and even on cold mornings to the Finance Division and Federal Directorate of Education to get this issue resolved.

After the approval of this new nomenclature, the lady teachers will get time-scale promotion in the next grades. Moreover, they will get a house rental ceiling of correspondent with their new grades,” he said.

The decision about the change of nomenclature was announced in 2010 by then prime minister Yousaf Raza Gilani. Most of the teachers in grade 16 were granted promotion but 258 lady teachers of model colleges were left in the SST posts owing to legal glitches.
