QUETTA: A woman counciller was killed and two others sustained bullet wounds on Friday when police opened fire to disperse an angry mob in Ormara tehsil of Gwadar district.

Sources said a lady councillor from Balochistan National Party (BNP), Gul Nisa Sameer, and other residents of the locality had gathered outside the residence of a police official in Police Line area of Ormara tehsil after an unknown woman was seen being taken inside the house.

The mob was asking the police personnel about the woman and insisting that she should be shown to them. According to an official at Ormara Police Station, the situation later turned violent and police fired shots in the air to disperse the crowd.

However, the firing injured three protesters, including Sameer, who was critically injured and died even before reaching the hospital.  Sameer was recently elected as councillor for municipal committee during Balochistan’s local government elections.

Gwadar’s DPO and DSP have launched an inquiry into the incident. The Express Tribune made several phone calls to take version of the SHO Ormara Police station but failed.
