KARACHI: The joint in-charge of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement's (MQM) Balochistan Committee was shot dead in Orangi Town on Tuesday evening.

He was identified as 38-year-old Ashraf Khan, son of Asghar. The police said that he was shot dead near his residence as he sat in his Suzuki Alto to run errands. They added that two unidentified motorcyclist opened fire at him shortly after he drove towards the main road.

The police said that Khan used to carry a licensed weapon with him and used it to fire at and injure one of his assailants, who managed to escape. The police added that Khan was shot at four times and was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.

SHO Shahzad Ilyas said that the deceased was affiliated with the MQM and also worked as clerk at the excise and taxation department, adding that the police were searching hospitals near the scene of crime in case the assailant had gone there for treatment.

Following his death, a large number of party workers reached the hospital and condemned the incident.
