Pakistan Premier Football League: Baloch FC hold KRL in goalless draw

Defending champions not up to the mark against ‘weakest side’

KARACHI: Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) bottom side Baloch FC held defending champions KRL in a goalless draw at the Dr Mohammad Ali Shah Stadium on Sunday.

KRL has had a tough run this season after their top players, Kaleemullah, Saddam Hussain and Muhammad Adil, left to play with Kyrgyzstan’s FC Dordoi earlier this year.

According to KRL’s seasoned midfielder Muhammad Qasim, the result against Balcoh FC came as a shock. “We are stunned. Baloch FC is the weakest side in the competition,” Qasim told The Express Tribune. “I think sometimes over-confidence is destructive. In our match against Baloch FC, our players made light of them, missing several opportunities to score. We were obviously not up to the mark here.”

Qasim further went on to praise their opponents for putting up a good fight. “The result is a problem for us, but for Baloch FC, they contained us well and I’m sure they are thrilled with the outcome. They played a rough game but they were very spirited; our players on the other hand made careless mistakes.”

The midfielder added that his side can still defend the title if they win their remaining six matches.

KRL, who stand in seventh place, have 25 points while Baloch FC are at the bottom of the table with just four points to their credit after playing 19 matches.
