KARACHI: K-Electric (K-E) maintained their hold on second place in the Pakistan Premier Football League (PPFL) table as they registered a 2-0 win against NBP at the Dr Muhammad Ali Shah Stadium yesterday.

Muhammad Rasool scored the opening goal in the 24th minute while Nigerian striker Sunday Obeyuni sealed the win in the 41st.

Captain Muhammad Essa said his team will be playing each match like a final in order to win the title this time after having finished as runners-up in the last two seasons.

However, Essa believes that third time’s a charm. “It’s about time, we need to win the title now,” Essa told The Express Tribune. “We’ve been taking the runners-up prize for the past two years and I’ve told my team that this time around we need to finish at the top. We’ve got six more matches to play, and each match is crucial. We don’t want to draw or lose any of them. There is no room for mistake.”

K-E, with 35 points from 16 matches, follow Army who have 36 points on the table after playing 18 matches.

According to Essa, yesterday’s win has brought them closer to lifting their first PPFL trophy.

“It’s very close, every team in the top four will be looking to win so this is going to be an important two weeks. We are not taking any side lightly; our next two matches are against KPT and Railways, and winning these will be crucial.”

Meanwhile, NBP continue in the ninth position with 19 points to their credit.

In the second match of the day, KPT defeated Afghan FC 2-0 at the KPT Stadium.

KPT stand on the eighth spot with 23 points after their 15th match, while Afghan FC remain on 10th with 17 points.
