HANGU:

Hangu District Police Officer Anwar Saeed Kundi took off his police belt in front of a jirga on Friday and refused to serve, saying he was unable to take action against a subordinate in the district.

A few days earlier, Hangu city SHO Khanullah Wazir had stopped Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf MPA Shah Faisal from entering the police station through a constable. The constable had also allegedly misbehaved with the lawmaker. On Friday, a jirga of the Sunni Supreme Council was held in Orakzai Agency Jirga Hall. MPA Shah Faisal, MNA and parliamentary leader for Fata Dr Ghazi Gulab Jamal, DPO Kundi and elders of the Sunni Supreme Council were present at the jirga. Participants complained to the DPO about the SHO’s behaviour with the MPA, saying the SHO insulted the PTI leader which was unacceptable and unpardonable.

They demanded the DPO to take strict action against SHO Wazir. However, the DPO said he was helpless and took off his police belt, tossing it away to emphasise his point. Kundi said the SHO was much more influential and powerful than him, which is why he could not take any action.

He also refused to serve, saying it was insulting for him to not wield any power over his subordinates. Kundi added he would also ask policemen across the district to stop performing their duties if the situation did not improve.
