Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif welcomed Danish cooperation in the agriculture sector on Tuesday.
He was speaking to Danish Ambassador Jesper Moller Sorensen. Sharif said the Punjab had an agrarian economy and Danish assistance in the sector would be welcomed. He said the government had fostered an investor-friendly environment in the province. The chief minister said development projects were being quickly completed in the Punjab and steps taken by the government to revamp the education, health, agriculture, livestock, transport and infrastructure sectors had yielded positive results. He said the nation was fighting an energy crisis. Sharif said the government was looking into harnessing the potential of alternative sources of energy in addition to using conventional methods of power generation to overcome the crisis. He said work was being carried out on wind, bio-gas, bio-mass and solar energy projects and invited Danish companies to collaborate on the initiatives.
Ambassador Sorensen said Denmark was keen on further cementing economic and commercial relations with Pakistan and the Punjab in particular. He said cooperation with the province in power generation from renewable sources including wind and solar energy would be further strengthened.
Topics of mutual interest including the promotion of trade, investment and cooperation in the energy sector were discussed in the meeting. Ambassador Sorensen expressed sadness over the Peshawar carnage. The chief minister said the attack had saddened the entire nation. He said the entire nation was united against terrorism and the time was ripe to take decisive action against anti-state elements. Sharif said Pakistan would be rid of the scourge of terror with national unity. He said over 40,000 citizens had been martyred in the war on terrorism. Sharif said this was unprecedented.
The chief minister said the nation would be rid of the menace of terrorism by a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy. He said the citizens, politicians, military and religious leaders were all on the same page regarding the need to eradicate terrorism.
He said the Pakistani people and the law enforcement agencies had rendered great sacrifices in the war on terrorism.
Sharif said the nation was determined to take decisive action against terrorists.
He said the government would fulfil the expectations of the people and ensure that Pakistan emerged victorious in the war on terrorism. Sharif said the government would efficiently discharge its duty of leaving a secure and prosperous Pakistan for future generations.
