Leadership question: Pandemonium witnessed at press club meeting

Pandemonium was witnessed at the general house meeting of the Lahore Press Club on Friday.


Several members of the Progressive Panel started chanting slogans of Go Ansari Go as the executive started its presentation of the audited accounts. The supporters of the Journalist panel responded with chants of Ro Progressive Ro.

There were fiery exchanges between Lahore Press Club president Arshad Ansari and supporters of the Progressive panel. Both sides accused each other of financial impropriety.

Finance secretary Asif Chaudhry gave the expenditures’ account, saying the Rs45 million was spent during the year.

The income during the period had been Rs45 million, mostly derived from charges for Nisar Usmani Hall, donations and government grants.

Members of the Progressive Panel distributed pamphlets, titled Save Journalists’ Colony, claiming that the colony was being converted into a cooperative society.

Chaudhry urged both sides to calm down. Ansari then announced that polling will be held on December 29 at Al-Hamra Hall.

The Progressive Panel announced Najam Wali as its candidate for president, while the Journalist Panel has once again nominated Ansari for the top slot.
