Essay competition: Students ink their concerns for the environment

Students showed off their oratory skills at an essay writing competition held on Thursday in various departments of the Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University (PMAS-AAUR).


As many as 21 students, representing four faculties of the university, participated in an inter-faculty essay writing competition expressing their thoughts over ‘Harvesting global food security and justice in the face of climate change’. The event was organised by the university and Indus Consortium under the latter’s GROW campaign.


A panel of distinguished judges from the educational sector graded submissions based on content, analysis, presentation and assignment-specific criteria. Umar Sarwar of food technology department walked away with the coveted first prize. Madiha Tariq of the veterinary sciences department and Nadia Niaz of the food technology department stood second and third, respectively.


University vice chancellor Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad said, “We are inviting young people to share their hopes and concerns for the future, thereby generating an important youth perspective”.
