Police arrest six criminals in raids

Five alleged militants killed in Manghopir belonged to the TTP

KARACHI: Law enforcers claim to have arrested six suspects, including alleged criminals affiliated with Lyari-based gangs. Meanwhile, officials have claimed that the five alleged terrorists killed during an encounter on the outskirts of the city on Wednesday night, were affiliated with the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan.

Khawaja Ajmer Nagri Police claim to have arrested an alleged criminal affiliated with a Lyari-based gang. The suspect was identified as Amar Hafeez. Police officials said that the accused had kidnapped a teenager, Shoaib Adil, from Ferozabad and after getting a ransom of Rs500,000, had killed the victim. During the trial, he had broken the grille of the Anti-Terrorism Court’s lockup and escaped. The officials added that in January, two Rangers personnel and a passerby were injured due to the suspect’s firing. His companion, Tahir Pappu, was killed while he had managed to escape.

In another raid, three alleged Lyari-based gangsters were arrested after an exchange of fire with the police in Paposh Nagar. The arrested gangsters were identified as Arif alias Tiki, Karim Buksh and Khidmatullah.

Meanwhile, at least five suspected militants were killed during an alleged encounter with the Rangers personnel on Ijtimah Gah Road in Manghopir on Wednesday night. Three of the deceased militants were later identified as Umar Zada, Haider and Khalil.
