Regional cooperation: ‘SAARC can help South Asia become a vibrant region’

India’s High Commissioner Raghavan appreciated the role of the SAFMA in promoting SAARC objectives.

Ambassadors from SAARC member countries on Monday said they were optimistic about the future of SAARC and its potential for making South Asia a vibrant region at a seminar on the future of SAARC organised by the SAFMA.


India’s High Commissioner Raghavan appreciated the role of the SAFMA in promoting SAARC objectives.

He urged the member countries to utilise technology to promote cooperation in the region.

Raghavan said he hoped that the agreements reached at the 18th SAARC summit would help promote energy trade in the region.

SAFMA Secretary General Imtiaz Alam thanked the SAARC secretariat for extending SAFMA’s certification as a recognized body till 2016.

He urged member countries to allow free movement of journalists and free flow of information across South Asia. He said the SAARC should also consider a customs union and greater coordination among central banks.
