FAISALABAD: Dozens of residents of Samundri Road protested against low gas supply pressure on Faisalabad-Samundri Road on Sunday.
The protesters, including women and children, marched at Samundri Road near LCM High School and blocked Faisalabad-Samundri Road for traffic.
They chanted slogans against Sui Nothern Gas Pipeline Limited (SNGPL) and burnt old tyres.
They demanded that gas supply to their homes be restored immediately.
Zulfiqar Ali, a resident of Mohallah Qasimabad, told newsmen that hundreds of families had been affected by poor gas supply pressure at their homes.
He said women were unable to cook food and there was no hot water to bathe.
He urged the chief minister to take notice of the situation and immediate take steps to fix the problem.
Razia Bibi, one of the protesters, told newsmen her children were late to school every day because she could not prepare breakfast for them in time. She said many children had caught a cold from bathing in freezing water.
She said she had been unable to cook fresh food for her family since the problem started at the advent of winter. Naseer, a school teacher, said most people rushed to tea stalls in the morning because there was no breakfast at home. “Even tea stalls are crowded and often cannot cater to all their customers.”
Later, an SNGPL team met with the protesters and assured them that gas supply would be restored to their localities soon. Talking to newsmen, SNGPL spokesman Akram Ali said gas pressure at some localities on Samundri Road had been affected by repair work on the main supply line. He said SNGPL workers were on the site and at work.
“Adequate pressure will be restored within a day,” he added.
