LAHORE:

Lahore High Court (LHC) restrained an election tribunal on Thursday from holding proceedings on a petition challenging the election of MPA Rashida Yaqoob Sheikh from Jhang.

The court summoned the poll record within a week.

Yaqoob’s counsel said she had been elected MPA from PP-78 Jhang VI. He said her opponent Maulana Ahmad Ludhianvi had filed a petition in the election tribunal challenging her success.

He said Ludhianvi had levelled false allegations.

Separately, LHC issued a notice to the government on a petition requesting the court to include persons with visual and hearing impairments in the two per cent job quota reserved for the handicapped. Mansoorur Rehman Afridi, counsel for the petitioner, said the rule had never been implemented for persons with visual and hearing impairments. The court sought government’s reply by January 24.
