HYDERABAD:

The enforced disappearance and killings of nationalist workers have sparked widespread protests across the province. The Save Sindh Committee on Wednesday warned of laying siege to the residences of elected representatives if the situation was not resolved while the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) announced to boycott the national media.

"If another body is found, we will stage an indefinite sit-in along with the body outside the houses of that city's MNAs and MPAs until we get justice," warned Syed Jalal Mehmood Shah, the former speaker of Sindh Assembly, who now heads the committee and the Sindh United Party. He was addressing a demonstration in Hyderabad.

Protests were held in several districts of Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas and Nawabshah divisions. The bodies of at least nine nationalist workers have been found after being subjected to enforced disappearance in the last two months, according to the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan. The deceased include Shakeel Khanhro, Paryal Shah, Roshan Brohi, Asif Panhwar, Waheed Lashari, Sarwech Peerzado, Wajid Langah, Faheem Bhutto and Allah Wadhayo Mahar.

The SUP president demanded an end to the abductions and extra judicial killings. He also indirectly condemned Jeay Sindh Muttahida Mahaz (JSMM) leader Shafi Burfat for what he described were acts of incitement to violence.

Dr Niaz Kalani, the vice -president of JSQM, also criticised JSMM's approach by giving reference to the peaceful political philosophy of Jeay Sindh Tehreek's iconic leader, late GM Syed.

Kalani also asked his supporters to boycott the national media complaining that they deliberately avoid giving coverage to Sindh's issues.
