KARACHI:

A single teacher has the power to motivate and inspire thousands of children to rise. A single teacher has the ability to destroy the ambitions of those same children. Teachers are powerful societal forces that are critical to nation building. We spend the majority of our formative years under the tutelage of our teachers – learning from them, emulating them, and letting them construct our hopes and dreams.

Pakistan’s talent needs to be fully leveraged to successfully compete in the global knowledge economy. For that, we need to create a world-class educational system led by highly motivated and well qualified teachers.  Teachers who instruct, inform, and inspire students to learn and perform better and become well rounded adults.

Today, Express Media Group in collaboration with Ilm Ideas is launching an interactive campaign - Aao Parhao  - Jo Seekha Hai Wo Sekhao (Come Teach – Teach All That You Have Learnt) - a Call to Action to help change the future of Pakistani children.

Aao Parhao will support our teachers in delivering on their promise to teach. It is aimed at motivating highly qualified people to enter the teaching force, and to come together to celebrate the teaching profession. Through this call we want to acknowledge their invaluable contributions, and to request them to embrace their responsibility of nation building.

Over the course of the next several months, we will hear from the experts on key issues affecting the teaching ecosystem, including education budgets, teacher recruitment and teaching quality and support. We have partnered with education experts and teachers from across the country to develop informational features, teacher profiles, op-eds and blogs, which will be published weekly in The Express Tribune, Roznama Express and Sindh Express. In partnership with FM 91, we will share key insights about teaching challenges and opportunities through radio shows and interviews.

On Express TV, you will see our public service announcements, inspirational quotes from change-makers in history,  and a 12-part documentary series ‘Ustadon kay Ustad’, which profiles and celebrates high performing teachers.

The documentary will capture the experiences of teachers in challenging classroom settings in different parts of the country. In addition, we will conduct a nationwide university drive to bring students together to acknowledge their teachers and we will start dialogue with young graduates how they can become part of Pakistan’s education solution. Helping us further with our on-ground promotion is McDonalds, Pakistan.

So join us, by reading, watching and telling us what you think.
