Immunisation drive: Polio worker beaten in Multan

Unidentified men beat up a polio worker on Monday in Multan. District Health Officer Shahid Magsi told newsmen that Samina* was leading the drive in Abbaspur. He said a man wearing a Sindhi cap had approached her at Surajkand Road and requested that she vaccinate his children who, he said, were waiting in his car. He said when she approached the car, he tried to push her inside.


Magsi said there were no children in the car. He said more men stepped out of the car and attacked her.

He said she managed to free herself and fled.

He said Shehnaz was taken to Nishter Medical Hospital where doctors treating her had later said her condition was stable. He said he had filed an application with Multan police, seeking arrest of the men who had attacked her. Security for polio workers. Dera Ghazi Khan Health EDO Syed Munawar Abbas told newsmen on Monday that the Border Military police and the Baloch Levies were providing security to health workers covering tribal areas. He said district police, Elite Force and police volunteers were accompanying police teams.

He said as many as 70 medical officers and 247 area heads been appointed to monitor the drive.
