ISLAMABAD: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) has started paying compensation to the affected people of Kuri Model Village, said a press release.

The civic agency recently took possession of land in the village after carrying out operation against villagers, who were not vacating the area. The CDA had acquired 2,900 acres in the Kuri Model Village in 1968, but the affected people had not handed over the possession of the land to the civic agency and the issue lingered on in courts for years.

At a ceremony on Saturday, CDA Chairman Maroof Afzal along with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz MNA Tariq Fazal Chaudhry, in whose constituency the area falls, distributed cheques among the affected people.

Chaudhary appreciated the CDA for facilitating the affected people and said that any remaining issues with the villagers would be resolved amicably.

He said the civic agency would start work on the project after the villagers were fully compensated.

The MNA said the Kuri Model Village project will not only add to the grace of the city, but will also help lift the living standards of people in the area.

“We should join hands with the CDA to make the capital a model city,” he added.
