ISLAMABAD: Pakistan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Kyrgyz Republic have signed a historic accord to expand regional cooperation on energy, an official statement issued from the PM House stated on Thursday.
CASA 1000, a Central and South Asia transmission line, sponsored by the World Bank, will bring 1,000MW of hydel power from Tajikistan and Kyrgyz Republic to Pakistan and 300MW to Afghanistan.
The PM House stated that Pakistan played a key role in bringing about the agreement following a series of tough negotiations carried out by the working group, led by Secretary Water and Power Mohammad Younus Dagha and Additional Secretary Omer Rasul.
The final resolution came when Federal Minister for Water and Power Khwaja Asif joined in and managed to get all four member countries to agree on the terms of the contract.
"This is a historic achievement of the present government towards opening a regional economic corridor between central Asia and South Asia," the statement said.

We are tired of hearing how many projects have been signed.Never hear of any project being completedl or operational.
Ignoring the vast water resource available in our country, the government is bent on providing expensive electricity to consumers on the behest of foreign donor agencies. The victim will be the poor awam who are already paying one of the highest electricity tariffs in the world. The way things are going this country will end up with bulk electricity as only few would be able to afford such gifts from this government and people will be forced to do load shedding on their own to feed their children.

PMLN has done nothing in the past 1.5 years. No mega projects, no Hydel projects, only failed examples of Nandipur can be seen. I see Pakistan doomed in the presence of PMLN
It sure is historic, as we are going back to the age of sticks and stone. I never dreamt that we will also take Electricity from Tajikistan, thanks to Khwaja Asif.

what will be tariff .
Its been more than 8 years I have been watching agreement on electricity, but unfortunately other project like Metro or Motorway has been completed but Electricity remain unsuccessful. Poor people are dying but who cares? But we are loser because Allah will not care those people who never care there around poor people.
