DERA GHAZI KHAN/ FAISALABAD:

Hundreds of workers and sympathisers of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Fazal (JUI-F) on Sunday protested against the killing of JUI-F leader Khalid Sumroo on Saturday.

The protesters marched from Jamia Obaidia, D-Type Colony to Kamalpur Interchange. They blocked the interchange for traffic for several hours. Addressing the protesters, JUI-F district president Muhammad Zakariya Shah said those targeting JUI-F leaders were enemies of Pakistan. “Somroo was targeted because he was a religious leader,” he said.

He said Somroo went to Sukkar from Larkana to participate in a Peace Message Conference but those who attacked him did not want peace in the country. “Silencing one voice cannot stop the JUI-F,” he said.

The protesters chanted slogans and demanded arrest of Sumroo’s killers.

In Dera Ghazi Khan, JUI-F workers also protested the killing. They said Sumroo’s killing was a conspiracy against the state. They said involvement of foreign forces cannot be dismissed.

They said terrorism was spreading instead of being eliminated. They said it was the responsibility of the government to give security to its citizens. They said if the government failed to arrest Sumroo’s murderers, there would be nationwide protests.
