MUZAFFARABAD: Four people were killed and three others injured when a truck fell into the Neelum River near Kel in Upper Neelum Valley on Sunday.

Police said the truck, which was carrying seven people in total, fell into the river while negotiating a sharp curve after the driver lost control of the vehicle.

The injured and deceased were shifted to a hospital in Kel for treatment and other medico-legal formalities. The dead were identified as Tanveer Ahmad, Farooq Ahmad, Naveed Ahmad and Muhammad Mairfat, while the identity of the injured could not be ascertained immediately.

Road accidents have become commonplace across Azad Jammu and Kashmir as most roads are in a dilapidated condition owing to their poor maintenance by the AJK Works and Communication Department.

PML-N AJK Secretary General Shah Ghulam Qadir demanded the AJK government announce compensation for the deceased’s family and the injured.
