Wearing of many hats not good

PCB has decided that all those holding more than one post in the board will have to decide on only one

KARACHI: The new Pakistan Cricket Board Chairman (PCB), Shahryar Khan, has decided that all those holding more than one post in the board will have to decide on only one. Currently, there is a debate in the media on why Moin Khan is both the chief selector as well as the manager of the national team. This step by the chairman needs to be supported because having staff, who have more than one primary responsibility is not good for the employees nor is it good for the board. The same situation also prevails in the national junior selection committee with Basit Ali being the head of the selection committee in addition to working for his departmental team Sui Northern Gas, as well as being a consultant to the PCB.

Ali Zia is another case that comes to mind: he is senior general manager at the National Cricket Academy (NCA), as well as member of the selection committee and manager of the national under-19 team. Also, junior team selector Ali Naqvi is coach of the Khan Research Laboratories’ cricket team while Shahid Aslam currently serves as assistant coach of the national team and is a manager at the NCA. Even members of the Board of Governors have dual jobs, such as Najam Sethi and Shakeel Shaikh.

Ghazanfar Ali Khan
