PESHAWAR:

An application was filed on Friday in a customs court for the return of cloth that was meant to be exported to Afghanistan, but was confiscated by customs officials.

Ishaq Ali Qazi, the counsel for Messrs Umer Enterprises, filed the application saying cloth worth Rs30 million was being transported to Afghanistan via Thall-Parachinar Road, Kurram Agency when it was seized by FC personnel.

The application added the six trucks were intercepted and seized on the pretext of illegal transportation despite the company being authorised to export cloth to the neighbouring country.

As a result, the exporter approached the customs collector who summoned Thall check post officials. “Many of the contents of the trucks were missing when they were given to the customs,” stated the application. The applicant requested the customs court to conduct an independent enquiry and assess the loss inflicted upon Umer Enterprises.

Jailed abroad

In a separate case, district and sessions judge Anwar Ali Khan took notice of the imprisonment of a Sri Lankan citizen, who despite completing his jail term is still incarcerated at Central Prison Peshawar.

Muhammad Nizam was arrested on July 27 from within the jurisdiction of Hashtnagri police station for illegal staying in a hotel. The court then ordered to deport him after completing a sentence of three days. He has been imprisoned ever since.

Khan issued directives to the capital city police officer (CCPO) to make arrangements for Nizam’s immediate deportation.
