Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Leopards beat Panthers, other matches drawn

Imad took six wickets as Islamabad win by nine wickets

KARACHI: Imad Wasim’s brilliant six-wicket haul guided Islamabad Leopards to a massive nine-wicket victory over Peshawar Panthers in the eighth round match of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold League at the Arbab Niaz Stadium on Thursday.

Panthers resumed their innings on 126-3 but only managed to add 75 runs to their total after being directed to follow-on as Imad took six wickets with Mudasir Ali taking two, while Israrullah top-scored for Panthers with 54.

Leopards, who scored 402 in their first innings, required just 53 runs to win in their second innings. The target was achieved in 7.5 overs with Ali Sarfaraz scoring 29.

Meanwhile, the other three matches were drawn at the close of play.

In a match between NBP and UBL, NBP who scored 451-9 in their first innings declared their second innings on 168-4, giving UBL a target of 309 runs to win.

UBL, who were bowled out for 310 in their first innings, could only manage 201-4 at the end of the fourth day to end the match in a draw.

In another match, ZTBL, who were bowled out on 138 in the first innings, failed to reach the target as they ended day four on 296-6 in their second innings to draw the match against SNGPL.

The match at Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore between PQA and Wapda was also drawn as the final day ended with the former being bowled out in their second innings for 303.

At the end of the eighth round, SNGPL are on top with 54 points, followed by PQA and NBP at 47 points apiece. Wapda, with 36 points, are fourth while Peshawar Panthers and Multan Tigers are at the bottom with 12 and three points respectively.
