Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: SSGC face HBL in the silver league semi-final

Bowlers inspire both teams to victory over PTV, Hawks respectively

KARACHI: An aggressive bowling attack by Tabish Khan and Tariq Haroon steered SSGC into the semi-finals after defeating PTV by 235 runs on the last day of their quarter-final fixture of the Quaid-e-Azam trophy Silver at National Ground in Islamabad.

PTV resumed their second innings at 50-2 and were restricted to 182 as Tabish took five wickets with Tariq bagging three for 24. Rehan Afridi scored 70 for PTV.

In the other quarter-final, a fine bowling attack comprising Umar Gul and Abdur Rehman helped HBL beat Hyderabad Hawks by 18 runs.

Hawks resumed their innings at 19-2, but Azeem Ghuman’s 121 runs were hardly any assistance to his team in chasing the target of 285. The duo of Gul and Rehman took three wickets each, giving away 64 and 68 runs respectively.

Both winning teams will face each other in the semi-final match tomorrow.

Gold Edition

Rashid Latif and Haseeb Azam bowled brilliantly to help Rawalpindi Rams win their round-of-eight fixture by 72 runs against Multan Tigers.

Rams resumed their innings on 189-8 and managed to add only eight runs as their last two wickets fell cheaply. Muhammad Asif and Muhammad Irfan took four and three wickets respectively for Tigers.

Defending a target of 198, Latif and Azam made sure Tigers were sent packing on 192 accounting for four batsmen each. Kashif Naved was the top-scorer for Tigers with his 62.

In the other match, Abdur Rauf took six wickets for PQA to bowl out Wapda on 278 in their first innings. Aamer Sajjad scored 103 for Wapda. At stumps, PQA were 39-2 in their second innings.

At the Arbab Niaz Stadium in Peshawar, Zohaib Ahmed and Imad Wasim took three wickets each to restrict Peshawar Panthers to 251, after which they were forced to follow-on by Islamabad Leopards. They had scored 126-3 at the end of day’s play.

In another match, SNGPL declared their second innings on 254-4 after setting a target of 422 against ZTBL with the help of Adnan Akmal’s 75. ZTBL ended the day on 59-1 requiring another 363 to win the match.

At the Diamond Ground in Islamabad, Raza Hassan took four wickets for NBP to restrict UBL to 310 with Ziaul Haq taking three wickets, while Ali Asad top-scored for UBL with 129 runs.

At the close of play, NBP were 121-2 in their second innings with Kamran Akmal batting on 72.
