SUKKUR:

Scores of Jalbani and Brohi tribesmen staged a protest on Indus Highway on Tuesday, demanding the recovery of seven persons, including two Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) workers, kidnapped last week.

They gathered on the highway shouting slogans against the police. The protesters later staged a sit-in on the highway, suspending traffic on both the tracks.

Two PTI workers, Shoaib Domki and Abid Shahani, were kidnapped when they were returning to Kandhkot after attending the November 21 rally. Five others - Zulfiqar Brohi, Humair Bhutto, Nazar Brohi and truck drivers Shoukat Jalbani and Aijaz Brohi, were kidnapped by armed men in the jurisdiction of Buxapur police station on November 17 and 18. Reports from Kandhkot suggest that lawlessness has been prevalent in this particular area for some time.

The police arrived on the scene to negotiate with the protesters, assuring them that the kidnapped persons would be recovered in 48 hours.
