KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court on Saturday reserved its judgment on applications filed by accused Salman Abro in the Sulaiman Lashari murder case till November 26.

An O-Level student, Lashari, was allegedly killed by SSP Ghulam Sarwar Abro's teenage son Abro at his house in Defence Housing Authority on May 8 this year. Abro and four of his police guards, identified as Rasheed, Yasin, Maqbool and Imran, were booked for murdering the teenager.

The ATC-III judge, Saleem Raza Baloch, adjourned the hearing for his order on applications after both the sides completed their arguments.

Abro, the main suspect of the case, has filed different applications to the special court in his defence. Through an application under section 256 (k) of Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), the court has been requested to acquit the suspect while through another under section 23 (a) of CrPC, the suspect has pleaded transfer of the case to a regular court. The other applications include sections pertaining to human rights violation and legal objection on the charge sheet of the case.

Earlier, on November 17, the same court had rejected an application filed by the accused seeking action against the investigation officer (IO) of the case. The court had been pleaded to initiate action against the IO under Section 200 of CrPC for allegedly tampering with the medical report of the prime suspect. However, the request was dismissed as the special public prosecutor opposed it arguing that the medical report was just a hospital discharge certificate and had nothing to do with the case proceedings.

On Thursday, Lashari's mother Erum Naz, had accused Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah of interfering in the murder case investigation. She alleged that the CM had ordered reinvestigation of the case to favour the accused, Abro, as his father was a high-ranking police officer.

Shah refuted the allegations and ordered Sindh IG Ghulam Haider Jamali to consult the mother of the deceased before appointing a new officer to reinvestigate the case.
