QUETTA: At least one person was killed and three others injured in a bomb blast near the exit point of the Pakistan-Iran border in Turbat district on Sunday.

“A driver and cleaners were sitting on the Pakistani side of the border near the customs office when a huge explosion occurred, killing one person on the spot and injuring three others,” a Mand-based official of the Balochistan Levies, Ahmed Ali, told The Express Tribune by phone.

Levies personnel reached the area and shifted the casualties to the Civil Hospital. “The injured were later ferried to a hospital in Karachi for treatment of their critical wounds,” Ahmed said. Hospital officials identified the injured as Beberg Abdul Salam, Yousaf Haji Din Muhammad and Sameer Essa.

“We were sitting near the border when a deafening blast took place. We had no idea where the explosive device was planted,” a Levies official quoted a victim as telling him. However, officials ruled out the possibility of Iranian forces firing mortar shells across the border.

The blast occurred near the customs office which is situated near the exit point of Pakistan-Iran border. “It is a legal trade route from where vehicles from either side pass by carrying goods,” the Levies official added.

Mand is one of the troubled areas in the insurgency-hit province, where recently the DPO Turbat narrowly escaped an attack.
