Preventing breast cancer : Al Shifa launches awareness campaign

The speakers stressed that early diagnosis of breast cancer can increase chances of survival to 90 per cent

News Desk November 23, 2014

Pakistan has the highest rate of breast cancer in Asia and one out of nine women is at risk of breast cancer. This was stated by speakers at the launching of a Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign by the department of public health at Al Shifa Trust Eye Hospital under the supervision of assistant professor Dr Ayesha Babar Kawish. The speakers stressed that early diagnosis of breast cancer can increase chances of survival to 90 per cent. They further said that the campaign is a ladder to overcome social barriers that cause people to shy away and not to talk about this potentially fatal but curable disease at an early stage. An awareness walk was also held in which the hospital’s faculty, students, patients and their attendants took part. Pamphlets were also distributed among participants to help spread awareness on breast cancer.
