Council Elections 2014: K-P Bar polls to be held today

A total of 142 candidates vie for 29 seats

PESHAWAR: The elections for the membership of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Bar Council (KPBC) will be held on Saturday (today). A total of 142 candidates are contesting for 29 seats of the body that will be elected for a five-year term.

The province has been divided into seven zones. Senior civil judges will adjudicate the process as presiding officers and the senior most judges will serve as polling officers.

In Zone I, 62 candidates are competing for seven seats in the provincial capital alone. Meanwhile four candidates are vying for a single seat in Nowshera and three for the seat in Charsadda.

Zone II has nine candidates contesting two seats in Mardan, six contesting two seats in Swabi, three contesting one seat in Karak. Also, three candidates are vying for the combined seat of Hangu and Kohat in Zone III.



Zone IV has three candidates contesting one seat in Bannu, three for one seat in Lakki Marwat and five for two combined seats of DI Khan and Tank.

In Zone V, a total of ten candidates are vying for two seats in Abbottabad, three for one in Haripur and six for two combined seats of Mansehra and Battagram.

Meanwhile, Zone VI has four candidates contesting one seat of Buner and Batkhela and four for one in Chitral. Also, Upper and Lower Dir have one seat and five candidates while Mingora has one seat with three candidates.

Lastly, Zone VII will see a contest between six candidates for a single seat in Shangla and Kohistan.
