Quaid-e-Azam Trophy: Rauf bags first-class career’s 56th five-wicket haul

Seamer helps PQA thrash ZTBL by an innings and 17 runs

KARACHI: Seamer Abdur Rauf picked up the 56th five-wicket haul of his first-class career to help PQA thrash ZTBL by an innings and 17 runs in their Quaid-e-Azam Trophy Gold match at the National Ground in Islamabad.

ZTBL resumed their seventh round’s last day on 68-3 while following on, and were bowled out for 273 in 71.3 overs. Sohail Tanvir top-scored with 63 and Shahid Yousuf contributed 47.

Rauf claimed six wickets to finish the match with a collective eight scalps, while Sohail claimed two wickets to finish with a total of seven. PQA have now moved into second position with 44 points from seven matches.

Meanwhile, defending champions SNGPL continue to run the show as they notched up a 169-run win against UBL, thereby consolidating their position at the top with 51 points.

SNGPL started the day on 221-6 and declared their innings on 268-8 in 69 overs with an overall lead of 291. Naeemuddin slammed 101 off 165 with the help of 12 boundaries while Ali Zahid claimed a five-for.

UBL were unable to chase down the target and were undone by SNGPL’s pacers as they were dismissed for 122 in 33.4 overs. Samiullah Niazi picked up four wickets.

Meanwhile in the Silver league, Zafar Gohar’s 10-wicket haul in the match enabled SBP to trounce SSGC by an innings and 21 runs at the Sports Stadium in Sargodha.

SSGC were bowled out for 155 in 51.5 overs after resuming the day on 55-1. Usman Tariq top-scored with 50, while Zafar Gohar claimed his second five-for of the match to accumulate 10 wickets. He was supported by Kashif Bhatti, who also bagged five wickets.
