LAHORE: The Punjab University Academic Staff Association on Saturday condemned the Islami Jamiat Talaba (IJT) for attacking the car of University Law College Assistant Professor Imran Alam.

Association vice president Abid Hussain, Faheem Aftab, Mahboob Hussain, Muqeet Javed, Sardar Iqbal and Imran Alam addressed a press conference.

They demanded that Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif take notice of the incident and provide protection to faculty members.

They said some IJT hooligans had attacked Alam’s car at 7.30pm on Friday near the campus breaking its windowpanes. They said the IJT had threatened him a day earlier.

They said a few IJT members wanted to disrupt academic environment at the university with the help of outsiders. They said police were not arresting IJT activists who had been nominated in FIRs for similar incidents.

They said IJT activists had fired shots at the house of Hall Council chairman Prof Muhammad Akhter on September 1, attacked the car of Institute of Communication Studies Lecturer Ayesha Hakeem on October 17 and raided the house of Department of Kashmiriat Assistant Professor Sardar Asghar Iqbal on November 11.
