QUETTA: Three security officials were injured when militants opened fire at a convoy of Frontier Works Organization (FWO) in Turbat on Saturday.

According to the Balochistan Levies, the FWO convoy was travelling from Turbat to Gwadar when a group of armed men opened fire at them in Beri Dasht area of Turbat.

“Three security guards sustained bullet wounds; more troops reached the area and retaliated to the attackers forcing them to flee from the scene,” an official at the Turbat Levies Thana told The Express Tribune.

The injured guards were identified as Naik Munir Ahmed, Naik Mohammed Iqbal and Sepoy Abdul Sattar.

The wounded guards were shifted to a hospital for treatment where they are said to be out of danger.

Baloch militants are believed to be responsible for the attack since the banned Baloch Liberation Front (BLF) has claimed responsibilities for similar attacks in the past.

However, there were no immediate claims of responsibility for Saturday’s attack.

The FWO is working on several highway projects in the Makran division, including Turbat Gwadar and Panjgur highways.
