FAISALABAD:

Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) President Engineer Rizwan Ashraf has called on the government to at least stick to supplying minimum gas to the textile industry, citing the potential collapse of the value-added sector.

Commenting on the Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited’s (SNGPL) decision to suspend gas supply to the industrial sector from November 15, 2014 to March 15, 2015, he said that this decision is not in national interest and will erode the industrial base of Pakistan.

He said that shortage of gas during winter is a regular phenomenon for many years and it was decided that 25 to 33% critical quota will be given to the textile sector.

“We have already brought the situation to the notice of the concerned authorities,” said Ashraf. “We are optimistic that the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources will ensure minimum gas supply during winter.”
