THARPARKAR: With children regularly dying of malnutrition in the drought-stricken Tharparkar, the death toll for 42 days rose to 61 after another infant passed away on Tuesday, Express News reported.

Two other drought-affected children, reportedly in critical condition, were also moved to Hyderabad for medical treatment.

Around 52 children are undergoing treatment in the Civil hospital of Mithi while the federal and provincial governments continue to ignore the plight of those affected by the drought.

The drought, that has claimed around 470 lives in the last three years, also badly affected animals with provincial government failing to provide free or subsidised fodder for protecting them from the devastating spell.

Government action

Sindh Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah has summoned a cabinet meeting in Mithi on Wednesday to review situation of drought-hit Tharparkar and the relief work.
