PESHAWAR: The Insaf Doctors Forum (IDF) has threatened to protest against the provincial government if it fails to meet their demands to streamline operations at hospitals.

In a press release issued on Monday, members of the IDF said they would demonstrate in Bani Gala in the beginning of next year. The statement was issued following a meeting of IDF’s local cabinet at Hayatabad Medical Complex under the leadership of IDF President Dr Muhammad Shah. Speaking on the occasion, Dr Shah criticised the bureaucracy, claiming it is corrupt. “The menace of fraud has affected the country’s system in general and that of the province in particular.”

He said hospitals in the province are in poor condition and that non-availability of medicines and vaccines for the treatment of hepatitis B and C has jeopardised the lives of patients. Dr Shah also criticised the interference of MPAs in hospitals, blaming them for the delay in procurement of MRI machines for Hayatabad Medical Complex.

He told The Express Tribune that a four-member delegation of the forum held a meeting with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf Chairman Imran Khan on November 1 in Islamabad. During the moot, the PTI chief pledged to address problems faced by doctors and patients. Dr Shah said they trust Imran Khan but warned to hold a sit-in if their demands are not met.
