HAFIZABAD: A woman who attempted to commit suicide along with her two daughters because of poverty, has been saved in the hospital.

However, one of her daughters is in critical condition according to hospital sources.

Gulnaz was a resident of Thatha Maan area near Hafizabad, Punjab.

She jumped into Jhang branch canal along with her daughters, two-year-old Javaria and four-year-old Saira. People present near the canal saved them in time and took them to the hospital.

Gulnaz's husband claims his wife attempted to commit suicide, because she is "abnormal".

Last month a woman committed suicide by taking poisonous pills after making her five children drink poisoned milk in Chenab Nagar, Chiniot, over a brawl with her husband over his non-payment of the children's school fees.

Experts say the hike in suicidal incidents in the country is an alarming phenomenon and blamed the rampant non-tolerance in the society as the main reason.

Lets face it people, WE are to blame for what is happening. When an individual takes his/her life along with his/her children, it is because of despair and loneliness. That despair/loneliness is due to the fact that other human being around them had no clue what was going on in their head. They were isolated. One can live in poverty/denial/lack of amenities etc. if one is loved, talked to, given hope and all the other things that go with being part of society - it is only because of total despair and hopelessness that one would take such a step. So lets look within ourselves and for once stand up and take the blame - and do something about it instead of "explaining" it away as circumstances beyond one's control. .
