ISLAMABAD: Two days after Indian Army personnel on patrol duty opened fire on a car, killing two teenagers in Chattergam village of Badgam district, the army has decided to shift the company of 53 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) from the area.

The RR is a counter-insurgency force deployed in Indian Kashmir by the Indian Army.

The killings triggered protests across the valley, with locals demanding the removal of the army camp from the area, as they were involved in a similar killing two years ago, Kashmir Media Service reported.

An Indian defence spokesperson confirmed to the media that "the company has been shifted from the area."

The spokesperson said that the deputy commander of a neighbouring RR sector is conducting an inquiry into the incident and has been asked to complete the investigation at the earliest.

Police have also filed a case against the unit. This is a second such incident at Chattergam involving the same unit.

In October 2012, the army opened fire on a private van, killing two men.

Need a fair investigation and the responsible officers suspended and tried in civilian court of he has flout the procedures. In civilian areas army has extra responsibility to make sure their actions are well calculated and not impulsive.
