ISLAMABAD:
The United States on Monday condemned the deadly suicide bombing at the Wagah border crossing and offered to help Pakistan with investigations into the case.
“We support Pakistan’s efforts to bring all those involved in planning and executing this attack to justice and stand ready to provide any appropriate assistance to authorities investigating this tragic attack,” says a press release issued from the US Embassy in Islamabad.
“On behalf of the American people, I extend my heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the families of the vctims as well as to the government and people of Pakistan,” it quotes US Ambassador Richard Olson as saying.
“This act demonstrates terrorists’ blatant disregard for life. The United States remains steadfast in its commitment to the people of Pakistan in their efforts to counter terrorism, uphold the rule of law, and build a peaceful future for themselves and their children.”
Over 50 people were killed and dozens injured when a suicide bomber blew himself up in the midst of visitors who were exiting the parade ground at the Wagah border crossing where border guards from India and Pakistan hold a colourful flag-lowering ceremony before sunset every day.
There were conflicting claims of responsibility with Jundullah, TTP-Mehsud and TTP Jamaat-ul-Ahrar claiming credit for the deadly attack.
