KARAK:

Continuous theft of oil from the joint pipeline of Nashpa oil field and Makori central processing facility at Mir Kalam, Spina Banda has been discovered by the police in Banda Daud Shah tehsil of Karak.

The media reported a month ago that unidentified culprits were stealing oil from the pipeline and transporting it to other areas in oil tankers. Upon being informed, Mol Oil and Gas Company rejected the claims, saying the loss in production was occurring due to technical issues and not theft. The case was hence dropped and no report was registered.

Bandha Daud Shah police SHO Iqbal Khattak later recovered a pipe, pipe wrench and other tools used in the theft along the pipeline in Mir Kalam and lodged an FIR against unidentified thieves.

Locals claimed the activity is carried out during the wee hours of the morning, adding the oil is stolen and shifted to hideouts in Kohat and Karak districts.

The oil is later sold to traders and illegal refineries. A police official said the Makori central processing facility in charge Zareen Khan also confirmed incidents of theft.

Aren't the pipelines metered for the inland revenue? or is every one on the take?
