KARACHI: The Centre for Bioequivalence Studies and Clinical Research (CBSCR), Karachi University, is setting up a certified reference laboratory to conduct bioequivalence evaluation and develop generic pharmaceutical products in compliance with international regulations. International Centre for Chemical and Biological Sciences director Prof Dr Muhammad Iqbal Choudhary said that the CBSCR was providing services to Pakistani pharmaceutical companies in order to give them an objective evaluation of their products. He added that this would help them register their products in other countries where bioequivalence is mandatory, enhancing their export potential. He also said that improved product quality would lead to reduced treatment costs and better health. The project is initially being funded by the government and is expected to ultimately become a profit-earning organisation promoting research and academic activities in the country, Choudhary added.
