KARACHI:
The Sindh High Court (SHC) has summoned the head of the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) of the police to explain why his subordinate failed to locate a person missing since 2011.
A division bench, headed by Justice Ahmed Ali M Sheikh, was hearing a petition filed by Aslam Khan Ghori, whose son, Irfan Khan Ghori, was kidnapped from Pak Colony on August 17, 2011. Even though the family paid ransom, Irfan has yet to be released by his captors.
AVCC inspector Amjad Kalyar filed a progress report in court, submitting that some men involved in this kidnapping have been arrested and have admitted that they kidnapped and killed Ghori. The judges took the report on record. However, they noted that the matter has been adjourned several times since the case was filed in 2011 due to false undertakings by police officials. Till date, no positive progress seems to have made, the bench said.
