Social intervention: Dispute between speaker’s brother, Swabi AAC resolved

Jirga to meet on Nov 5 to decide Adnan Khan’s fate

SWABI: A jirga has successfully managed to resolve the dispute between Swabi Additional Assistant Commissioner (AAC) Khaliq Dad and Adnan Khan, brother of Assembly Speaker Asad Qaiser.

Elders from Swabi, MPAs, political leaders and officials of the district government participated in the jirga convened at Dad’s residence on Friday.

At the jirga, Waheed Khan, Qaiser’s other brother, said the disagreement between Adnan and Dad was “merely an accident” and Adnan did not assault the AAC intentionally. Waheed added they had brought a jirga to Dad’s house to seek his pardon and an amicable solution to the dispute.

The elders urged the AAC to settle the matter with Adnan and insisted he would be more careful of his actions in future.

It was decided another jirga would be held on November 5 in which Adnan would be presented in front of the elders and his fate would be decided.

Dad has accused Adnan of manhandling him and using foul language. According to Dad, on Wednesday Adnan and his bodyguards barged into his office and thrashed him over registering cases against some shopkeepers and butchers for overcharging and food adulteration. Dad claims Adnan wanted him to retract the cases.

Following this, officials from government departments and representatives of political parties went on strike and participated in a rally at Jirga Hall on Thursday. They threatened to a complete strike if action was not taken against Adnan.
