KARACHI: Provincial Minister for Food Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar has demanded the federal government to immediately ban the import of wheat from Ukraine because it will cause an adverse effect on the price of the commodity in the local market. Federal Minister Sikandar Hayat Bosan assured Dahar that the government will try to resolve the matter. The federal government had allowed traders to import 1 million tons from Ukraine, out of which 0.65 million has arrived in Pakistan. “The imported wheat is of low standard and not good for human consumption,” claimed Dahar, adding that the Sindh government has also proposed to impose a 20% regularity duty on its by-products. According to a food department spokesman, the Sindh Cabinet has also proposed the federal government to fix the support price of Rs1,300 per kilogramme for 2014-15.
